And this applies to dogs as well. The connection between diet and good health is well established in humans, what holds good for humans and human food holds true for dogs and dog food.
Dogs that eat a natural diet live longer, healthier lives. The problem is that we have lost touch with what the natural correct diet for a dog actually is. Instead we feed them the equivalent of junk food.
Dogs on a raw food diet love the taste, it is better for their digestion and there's less waste for you to deal with. And as all the food is utilised they are happier and calmer too.
Modern, manufactured, processed food is lower in protein and higher in carbohydrates compared to a dogs natural diet.
So that is why I made the change and have fed my dogs raw food for many years now.
Beamish my Labrador has been fed a raw food diet and has had a healthy happy life and seldom visits the vets, other than routine check ups and lived to the age of 14 years, which is good for a Labrador.
Smudge my Flat Coated Retriever has been feed raw since he was 8 weeks old, he came with the usual supply of kibble but I knew I didn't want him to be kibble fed, so changed him straight away. Started him off on Turkey which is easy digestible with a few vegetables e.g broccoli/cauliflower. and he is now on a variety of raw meats , duck, three bird mix(duck, turkey&chicken) salmon, oily fish, surf and turf and beef, also feed seasonal vegetables and fruits that are suitable for dogs.
We have had no health issues with him as he has grown into a healthy fit, energetic young dog , with a beautiful glossy coat .
There are numerous ways to feed a raw food diet, it doesn’t have to be boxes of raw meat filling the fridge taking you time to prepare. There are many good quality prepared raw dog foods available now.
I would recommend you find a good company that will help you choose which raw food is best for your dog.
Honey's in central Wiltshire are probably the best supplier you will find. Very good products. An ethical company who are only too willing to give you expert advice, no order necessary. Check their website at https://honeysrealdogfood.com/ for some great offers and articles.
But there are many local suppliers too, just make sure you review them (Google is good for this)or ask for recommendations from your friends with dogs.
Cute as it is, dogs are not natural vegetarians!
